Same 4 hours, different calendar
A barber, barber instructor, or assistant barber instructor license needs the same split as cosmetology: 1 hour of Board Laws and Rules, and 3 hours of Infection Control and Safety approved for barbers. The Laws and Rules hour is free and only provided by the Board. Hours apply to every barber license you hold, including a barber instructor license.
1StopCEUs' 3-hour infection control course is the infection-control half. Start that course. Take the Laws and Rules hour on CE Broker.
When it is due
The Board's Renew a License page sets the current barber dates: complete CE by August 15, 2028. Classes are available only until 8:00 p.m. that day, so there is time to finish the 4 hours before midnight.
The license must be renewed by August 31, 2028. A late fee applies after that date. Barber business licenses renew by August 31 of each even-numbered year, and the business instructions do not list a CE hour requirement for the shop license.
How to renew
- Check the barber exemption dates. They are not the same as the cosmetology dates. Exemption rules.
- Complete the Board's free Laws and Rules hour and a 3-hour infection control course approved for barbers. Providers report completion to CE Broker within 10 business days.
- Renew and pay at elicense.ohio.gov.
